Everything is created in pairs, left and right, up and down, over and under, front and back, black and white, etc. etc.etc
There's a sense of balance, equality in these pairs don't you think? A sense of equilibrium.
Like for instance, the balance or middle-ground between black and white should be grey. If you add just a slight of black to that shade of grey, it'll alter the equilibrium altogether and the grey is more prone to be black than white.

Same thing goes in life, being in the middle, balanced is well, ideal. Example, nutrition, if the amount of input you put in your body is bigger than your output (i.e physical activities) you are more likely to gain weight and vice versa, if your input is smaller than your output, you tend to be underw
eight.
These both conditions can lead to adverse subsequent results (i.e diseases, lifestyle).

Your goal should be the same too. The world vs hereafter, professional vs personal, fun vs serious etc.
If we put countless effort into understanding our physiology/microbiology/ biochemistry textbook for the sake of a 5 (in Russia, A-grade=5), or to land a bigger pay job, why can't we do the same for the Quran?
Or if we spend our money and time to go to a, for instance, Maroon 5 concert,(weyh, sedeh woo tak dapat pergi) why can't we spend the same amount of time and money to go to, well I don't know, an intellectual, religious discussion?

This mentality is what hindering us from achieving the beautiful world you and I dream of.

and oh by the way,
I'm not saying that everything should be equal, some things, rationally, should weigh more than the other, good deeds vs bad deeds, heaven vs hell.

You get my point don't you?
